Hotel review: Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadero

Thinking of visiting Paris with the kids? Then the brand new Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadero is just what you are looking for. With some of the best views of the iconic Paris landmark, the Eiffel Tower from the rooftop terrace or your hotel room, this hotel is perfect for a luxury family friendly stay in Paris.

We have stayed at various Hilton brands over the years but never at a Canopy hotel and its not one of their brands that we were that familiar with. If all Canopy hotels are as good as our experience at Paris then I wouldn’t hesitate staying with them again for a family city break.

Location

In terms of location, it doesn’t get much better than the Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadero. Situated just a short walk to the Jardins du Trocadéro and the Eiffel Tower and within 15 minutes walk you were at the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées.

More importantly as a family the area felt really safe to walk around especially at night with lots of great Parisian restaurants and cafes to choose from in the area. The nearest metro station, the Trocadéro was also just a five-minute walk away from the hotel.

We felt like we had arrived in Paris as soon as we stepped out of our pre-booked chauffeur transfer from Charles De Gaulle and caught our first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower at the end of the street in the affluent 16th arrondissement area of the city famous for its 19th century Haussman buildings.

The Canopy Hotel Experience

The 1930’s building and façade was formerly an electric factory and has been transformed into one of Paris latest and coolest places to stay by architect and interior designer Jean-Philippe Nuel.

Orange bicycles are found at the entrance of the hotel and are typical of the Canopy brand, where complimentary rentals are available for guests to explore the city.

What was striking as we walked into the hotel was just how unlike any other Hilton we had stayed at previously. Stepping inside the lobby, the hotel is ultra modern, chic and contemporary, opening further onto the bar area and the hotels restaurant beyond. I really liked the fruit infused scent in the lobby which complimented the sophisticated surroundings.

We had an early morning flight to Paris from London and had a warm welcome to the hotel who acknowledged our Hilton Gold status.

As we arrived early to check-in our room wasn’t ready so we stored our luggage at the hotel and started our trip to Paris on the 7th floor rooftop terrace of the hotel.

This was one of our favourite parts of our stay here and what made this such a unique location was overlooking the Eiffel Tower and views of the city. We would return here several times during our stay but our favourite was at night and watching the Eiffel tower sparkle was a magical and memorable moment.

After a busy first day exploring Paris we headed back to the hotel and we were so excited to check out our room on the 5th floor.  Corridors to the rooms are painted turquoise with brightly coloured artwork on the walls which I really liked and couldn’t wait to see inside our room for the next few days.

Our Room

The hotel offers a choice of 123 luxurious rooms and suites in total at this 4 star hotel. We were staying in one of the hotel’s best rooms, a king bedroom suite but best of all it had its own private views of the Eiffel Tower.

At 38 sq metres our suite was massive and provided enough space for a family with a master bedroom and separate living area where the girls called home.

When we arrived in the room there was an ice bucket with complimentary Chandon for my husband and I and drinks and popcorn for the girls which was a lovely welcoming gesture.

Our suite had all the comforts of home and more. Every detail of what we look for in a hotel room was covered.

Plush robes, good storage, plenty of USB and plug sockets to charge our devices and things I would come to expect at a premium Hilton brand hotel in Paris were all there to make us feel at home.

I loved the modern and contemporary 1930’s Parisian design of our suite and was totally different to what you would find at a typical Hilton hotel – the only one that came close in terms of style was the Hilton Bankside in London.

Our room features local touches influenced by the local neighbourhood, I loved opening the door back into our room each day and seeing this gorgeous suite. For entertainment we had 2 large 55-inch Smart TV’s in the rooms in our suite and complimentary WiFi which was quick and had good coverage across the hotel.

One of my favourite things in our room was the signature Canopy above the bed, it was a really unique design feature and a key feature of Canopy hotels.

The bed itself is also one of the key selling points of staying at a Canopy by Hilton and it was so comfortable, which was just what was needed after busy days exploring this beautiful city. Our king size bed had gel memory and Serta cool balance technology which basically means it’s one of the most comfortable beds you’ll find in any hotel room in Paris.

The huge floor-to-ceiling windows offered plenty of natural light into our rooms and great views.  The suite overlooked the garden areas, complete with its large living wall and views of the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Opening the curtains each morning and seeing this iconic building was such an amazing view and at night it was even more beautiful as it shimmered every evening on the hour for 5 minutes.

The large bathroom was stunning, if I could have picked this up and dropped it into my home I would have, it was so aesthetically pleasing and also practical.

With a large walk-in shower complete with waterfall shower, dual vanity sinks, lots of soft white fluffy towels and a large soaking tub, it was the perfect place to relax in after busy days exploring Paris. Bath amenities were from the Australian brand thankyou.

Food and Drink

Using our Hilton Gold benefits we had Breakfast at the hotels restaurant L’Esprit Nouveau each morning. There was a good choice of food on offer from a la carte items to buffet style hot cooked breakfast, delicious pastries, fruit and cereals.  This set us up perfectly for our travels in Paris.

The freshly made pancakes dusted with icing sugar and a small jug of maple syrup on the side along with the pan au chocolat in particular are my particular breakfast recommendations and are well worth stopping here for breakfast alone.

Before we headed to dinner one evening at nearby Daraco16, which I would highly recommend we stopped off at the hotels bar for drinks.  The hotel has beautiful communal spaces to relax in off the lobby with lots of comfortable seating areas.

Overall

Would we recommend a stay at this hotel? Yes without a doubt, the Canopy by Hilton Paris Trocadero is one of the best places to stay in Paris. Finding a luxury yet family friendly hotel is so important to us when we travel and this hotel ticked all the right boxes – we had such a wonderful stay in a perfect location.

The level of service received during our stay was exceptional and this high level of customer service is a credit to the hotel management because it really does make a difference during your stay.
