Review – London Heathrow Marriott

If you are looking for a hotel for an overnight stay before your flight from Heathrow Airport, then it’s well worth considering the 4-star London Heathrow Marriott hotel.

We had an early morning start for our flight to Orlando with Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow Terminal 3, so we decided to stay at the Heathrow Marriott hotel and we were so glad with our choice. Having the convenience of having such a high standard of hotel, close to the airport really makes a difference to the start of your holiday.

This is our review of the Marriott London Heathrow Hotel.

What’s it like?

The  atrium style lobby of the hotel is really modern and spacious which made for a great first impression as we stepped through the doors.

There were lots of stylish communal spaces to relax in, with a bar, and both Carluccios to go and a full service restaurant off the lobby area with plenty of comfortable seating areas.  The fruit infused water available in their ‘refresh’ section of the lobby was a really nice touch.

We had a lovely warm welcome from the reception staff who recognised our Bonvoy Gold status.

After a long drive along the M4 to Heathrow, it was so refreshing that the check in process was very quick and efficient and within minutes we were handed the keys to our room and the girls excitedly led the way with their key in hand to find our room.

Our Room

There are 393 rooms here from deluxe and executive rooms to suites and one of the reasons why we chose this hotel was because the rooms here are spacious enough for a family of four.

We stayed in an executive room which was really spacious and I liked the modern and contemporary look and feel to our room which was spotlessly clean with two double beds.

As you will know from our trips we never travel light  and our room had plenty of storage space for our luggage and all the mod cons you would want from a four-star hotel offering all the facilities you require for a comfortable stay including:

  • Large flat screen TV with satellite channels
  • Air conditioning
  • Safe
  • Fridge
  • High speed WiFi
  • Hairdryer, iron  and Ironing board

The girls soon made themselves at home, settling in watching TV and using the complimentary WiFi (join the free Marriot Bonvoy loyalty programme ) for their iPads – a definite pre-requisite when travelling with kids.

We had an internal room which had views over the central atrium of the hotel.  Given the proximity to the main lobby I was a little concerned about noise, but I needn’t have worried, the noise insulation in these rooms was fantastic and we didn’t hear a thing.

The modern bathroom had a shower over a bath and a plentiful supply of This Works toiletries were provided.

Executive level rooms also have other benefits including bathrobes, slippers, complimentary mineral water and more importantly lounge access.

Facilities and the MClub Executive Lounge

Another benefit of booking rooms on the executive level is that we had access to the excellent MClub executive lounge at the hotel, which is impressive and definitely worth upgrading to.

Added perks to your stay include evening drinks and canapes and breakfast the next morning. These savings typically more than cover the upgrade cost. We quickly settled in and made our way to the lounge to relax.

In the evenings between 6pm and 8.30pm a selection of hot and cold food options and drinks were available, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and after a busy day travelling it was a great place for us all to unwind and start the holiday in style.

We had breakfast the next morning in the lounge which offered a range of hot and continental breakfast items ranging from small pastries and yogurts to fruit and cereals.

A unique feature of this hotel compared to most of the other Heathrow hotels was that it had a swimming pool and something I didn’t expect to find at an airport hotel.

Where is it?

The Heathrow London Marriott hotel is situated on Bath Road and is well placed for travellers flying from Heathrow terminals 2 and 3 and close to the M4 if you are arriving into Heathrow by car.

We typically use the Heathrow official meet and greet parking when flying out of Heathrow but as the Marriott had its own 250 space car park we decided to park there on their park and fly package which was so convenient.

Although the Marriott is one of the closest hotels to both terminals T2 and 3 (you can see the runway from the front of the hotel) you can’t actually walk to the airport from this hotel.  For some strange reason it’s also not on the Hotel Hoppa service (cost £24 for a family return), to use this service you would need to walk to the Sheraton Skyline hotel next door.

The hotel must have a partnership with hoteleshuttle which was advertised around the lobby area, which cost £28 one way for a family of four but these need to be booked well in advance.  We decided to take the most convenient option and ordered an Uber XL which cost £20  and was a 5-10 minute drive from the hotel.

Other options are the local 105 or  111 buses which take you into the central bus station at Terminals 2/3 from the street outside the hotel, which is an option if you are travelling with little luggage or as a couple.

Overall and is it family friendly?

Definitely, from the moment we arrived, the whole family was taken care of. The level of service received during our stay was excellent and this high level of customer service is a credit to the hotel management because it really does make a difference to your stay.

If you are looking for one of the best airport hotels to stay at when flying out of T2/3 at Heathrow airport you won’t be disappointed with the London Heathrow Marriott. We highly recommend it – but go for the executive level rooms, they are definitely worth the upgrade.
