Go Ape is  well known for having some of the very best high rope courses, with locations throughout the UK. One of of our favourite Go Ape venues is at the beautiful woodland setting of Dalkeith Country Park on the outskirts of Edinburgh.  We like this venue for families because it offers a range of courses suitable for all ages and abilities, from their Treetop Adventure course for children over 1m tall to their most challenging Treetop Challenge.

There are lots of obstacles to overcome in the trees here, from tunnels to rickety bridges, but our favourite is the zip wire, which sees you flying high above the River Esk below..

2. The Bear Grylls Adventure – NEC, Birmingham

This is one of the best high rope courses in the country, inspired by no other than Bear Grylls and a great choice for families with tweens and teens.  At 65ft tall, this is the tallest high ropes course in Europe and when you get to the top you are rewarded with amazing views of the area.

With 36 obstacles to overcome on this free roam course it ranges from simple rope bridges to a challenging rolling log on the more difficult routes on the course.  One of the highlights is being able to zip-line down out of the back of the Chinook helicopter, how cool is that!

3. Treetop Trek – Windermere, Cumbria

Treetop Trek offers a range of activities suitable for families.  With 30+ exciting treetop challenges to complete at a height of 15m are you balance and leap from tree to tree.  There are numerous obstacles to overcome, including rope bridges and swinging logs before you finish with a 250 metre triple zip line from a 14 metre high treetop tower to the shoreline of lake Windermere.  The course is set in the beautiful Lake District and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Treetop Trek also offers a Mini Trek for children aged 5 and over.   They also have another Treetop Trek venue in Manchester, set in the beautiful woodland of Heaton Park.

4. Aztec Adventure – Evesham, Worcestershire

Aztec Adventure is another venue that offers a wide range of fun activities suitable for families. 6. Conkers High Ropes – Swadlincote, Derbyshire

This former colliery site in Swadlincote has been transformed offering a range of activities suitable for families, including high ropes courses, zip lines, and a climbing wall.

8. Tower Climber – Zip World Tower, Hirwaun, South Wales

At 30 metres high, Tower Climber is the  biggest of its kind in the UK  located at the former Tower Colliery site, which was the oldest consistently working deep-coal mine in the UK up until its closure in 2008.

The main course is huge and consists of 3 storeys with a large viewing deck at the summit which takes up to 1 ½ hours to complete.  Featuring 55 coal mining themed obstacles to overcome, this is a really unique and fun high ropes course to experience for all the family.

They also have a junior course for kids aged 3yrs – 8yrs and is set at the lower levels  with 14 themed elements to tackle.

Heatherton is a home to lots of fun activities to keep all the family busy and one of their most popular attractions is their high ropes course.  At the Tree Tops Trail you’ll be challenged to overcome nets, climbs and zip wires all 40ft above the ground.  For younger children there is the Junior Tree tops trail with bridges, balance beams and bridges to complete.

10. Forest Jump High Ropes –  Celtic Manor, Newport, South Wales

Located in woodland next to the sprawling 5* Celtic Manor resort, this course features both high and low rope courses.  Their high rope courses contain 30 challenging obstacles and finish with a really fun zip line back down to the woodland floor.  You don’t need to be a guest here to use this course, but it needs to be pre-booked in advance.
